After finishing my lit degree, I completely stopped reading.  I had lost the ability to read for pleasure.  But in early 2013 I discovered reading could be social.  And in the autumn of 2013 I discovered MM romances and that reading could be downright HOT.  I haven't stopped reading since!

I live on Goodreads but I promise to figure out Booklikes eventually.

Whatever The Cost

Whatever The Cost - Lynn Kelling The first 25% of this book was a bit slow for me and I almost quit reading. Fortunately, the story line picked up about there and I started to connect with the MCs. At the same time I finally stopped noticing the fact that the verbs were all in present tense, which helped a lot. I read this book wishing I had a psych background. It would have been totally fascinating to be able to dissect the MCs and what was going on in their subconscious minds. This was not one of those stories where two obviously broken people come together and make each other better. Liam, especially, had his walls built so high and thick, it took a long time to ever realize that he was damaged and suffering. It was only after they began let each other in and letting their guards down that their inner turmoil was revealed, only to get seemingly worse and worse, rather than better. First, for Liam then for Jacen. Their struggles provided just the right amount of angst but, for such a new relationship, I don’t really see how it survived (though I am glad it did). I also found interesting Liam’s discovery that all of the personas he created as an escort to entertain his clients that he was adamant were just an act were actually a part of him that he had to embrace to be complete. Jacen’s acceptance and love of all of Liam’s quirks and patience for his hang ups made him all the more endearing. The story included just enough danger and suspense to compliment the MCs internal struggles and the supporting cast were all believable and necessary to the story line.
