After finishing my lit degree, I completely stopped reading.  I had lost the ability to read for pleasure.  But in early 2013 I discovered reading could be social.  And in the autumn of 2013 I discovered MM romances and that reading could be downright HOT.  I haven't stopped reading since!

I live on Goodreads but I promise to figure out Booklikes eventually.

Widdershins

Widdershins - Jordan L. Hawk Although mysteries, monsters, paranormal activity, and the like are not my general reading preference, I liked this book a lot. Despite my lack of exposure to this genre, I was able to follow what was going on with no problem.

For the first half of the book or so, the romance was a slow burn that took back seat to the mystery. But then things quickly heated up and the balance between plot and relationship shifted a bit. And the sex, when it finally happened, was hot and fairly frequent.

I will say I did not NOT particularly like the narration on the audio book. The narrator often lowered his voice or whispered for dramatic effect which resulted in me frequently having to adjust the volume so I could hear what was going on. Also the inflections in the narrator's voice often did not seem appropriate for the dialogue or were missing completely resulting in an awkward and/or flat reading of the story.

I assume I will eventually read the rest of this series, but the book was not compelling enough to make me want to do so right away.

The buddy read for this book was kind of a mess with lots of people reading at different paces, but, for me, reading with friends is always better than reading alone. Buddy read thread: Widdershins Wednesday with Wency, Wart & Whomever.
