Every time I read Kim Fielding, I get something totally different. No two stories read the same. No two stories feel the same. I kept waiting for the PNR twist here, but it never came.
As much as I liked Jeff, I loved Cleve. He was a liar and damaged and in trouble. *sighs* I distrusted him so much (and, yes, still loved him) in fact, that at one point I began to wonder if he was making things up as he gave Jeff his guided tours of the city. Fortunately I had my good GR buddy
Giulio to confirm for me that at least in that regard, Cleve was speaking truths.
I loved all of the virtual places I visited and all of the virtual food I ate.
I loved that the skittish nerdy Jeff saved Cleve. In more ways than one.
Admittedly Venetian Masks was a bit sappier than some of Fielding's other works with a bit more insta-love than she usually indulges in. And everything tied up almost too neatly. But I was grinning big at the end and that's worth bonus points from me.
Another book cleared off the Old & Moldy shelf with Dani and Pher. Hurray!
