After finishing my lit degree, I completely stopped reading.  I had lost the ability to read for pleasure.  But in early 2013 I discovered reading could be social.  And in the autumn of 2013 I discovered MM romances and that reading could be downright HOT.  I haven't stopped reading since!

I live on Goodreads but I promise to figure out Booklikes eventually.

Bob the Book

Bob the Book - David Pratt This is a story of finding meaning in one's life, living the best life you can with the situation you are in, finding commonality with those around you.

When Marco first suggested we read this book I looked at the cover and thought: WTF? I was expecting something a lot like the Pixar short The Blue Umbrella. And as much as I loved The Blue Umbrella, a whole book like that?

Well, then I started reading and again thought: WTF? This is nothing like The Blue Umbrella. It is philosophical and literary and deep.

Yes, this is a book about books looking for love and acceptance. But aren't we all? The metaphor worked really well. Each of the books we meet has it's own history: waiting to be purchased by just the right kind of buyer, dealing with being purchased by the wrong buyer, being resold, traded in, given away, neglected, abused, witnessing the ugliness of hate and homophobia. Each of these "book" experiences directly related to the human experience.

And the human romance that was far secondary to the story of the books was nice too.
